What are the different types of Credit Insurance?
Credit Life and Credit Disability Insurance is available for eligible single or joint borrowers.
- Credit Life - Designed to help pay off or reduce the eligible loan balance, up to the policy maximum, should a covered unexpected life event occur.
- Credit Disability - May help make loan payment(s) up to policy maximum in the event of total disability caused by covered injury or illness.

You work hard to pay your bills and manage your credit responsibly. If an unexpected life event, injury or illness was to occur, Credit Insurance may help ease the financial burden of your loan obligation which could provide relief from the financial burden of delinquency, default or repossession.

If your vehicle is stolen, accidentally damaged beyond repair, or otherwise declared an insured total loss, auto insurance will cover the replacement value. However, you remain liable for payment of the difference between the insurance settlement and the remaining loan balance with FreeStar Financial Credit Union. This deficiency can sometimes amount to thousands of dollars.

FreeStar Financial Credit Union provides GAP Plus coverage through CUNA Mutual Group. Here are the program highlights:
Autos, Motorcycles, ATV’s Jet Skis, Snowmobiles, Golf Carts
- The principal waiver is $2,500, applied to the principal balance of the replacement vehicle financed with FreeStar Financial Credit Union.
- Deductible assistance is for up to $1,000 (applied to the loan itself)
- Loan to Value Limit – 125% of NADA Retail
- Maximum Term – 84 months
- Maximum Loan Amount - $100,000.00
- Delinquent Payments (Life of Loan) – Two months or 60 days allowed; beyond that, not covered
- Maximum GAP loss - $50,000.00
- Refund – up to 60 days after purchase
Cost: $595.00 (effective 1/24/22)
Boats, Travel Trailers, Motor Homes
- Deductible assistance is for up to $1,000 (applied to the loan itself)
- Loan to Value Limit – 125% of NADA Retail
- Maximum Eligible Loan Term – 240 months
- Maximum Term – 84 months – will cover the first 84 months of the loan
- Maximum Loan Amount - $125,000.00
- Delinquent Payments (Life of Loan) – One month or 30 days allowed; beyond that, not covered
- Maximum GAP loss - $50,000.00
- Refund – Non Refundable
Cost: Depending on the loan amount and collateral $495.00 (effective 4/1/19)
Incidents not protected: Loss or damage incidents are NOT protected if the protected vehicle was repossessed by, or placed in the possession of, the credit union, its employees, or agents.
Mechanical Repair Coverage (insured by CUNA Mutual Group) allows you to take advantage of competitively priced and flexible protection from unexpected vehicle repairs after the manufacturer's warranty expires.
Mechanical Repair Coverage Advantages:

Credit union members ages 18 and over can also choose to increase their protection (Member Only Plan) or their family's (Family Plan) with up to an additional $300,000 in coverage.
